Internet of Things

Internet of Things

English version

The Internet of Things or IoT is becoming increasingly familiar. The number of “smart devices” connected to the Internet is growing by the day. Had the average person in 2014 three connected devices at his disposal, in 2020 this is expected to be seven per person.

Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of devices that are connected to each other via the internet. You can consider a wide range of devices, such as household appliances (such as refrigerators and security cameras), cars, heartbeat monitoring, drones, traffic lights and watches. By adding a variety of sensors to these devices, they are made “smart”. They can communicate with each other online, without human intervention. The devices only have to be connected to the internet. With IoT the smart and connected devices use machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. Ranging from toothbrushes to planters. Internet of Things leads to surprising new links between existing services, technologies and applications. This again offers space for creative solutions and new revenue streams. One thing is clear: the IoT is a trend that the way we live and work is going to change dramatically.

The growth of IoT is not to estimate, but it is assumed that there will be a strong growth of devices with sensors in various applications and industries such as e-health, retail and logistics. An increasing number of machines and devices are connected to the Internet. They will increasingly take over tasks from us, go to think for us and become an integrated part of our lives.

There was a time when computers were only online, now it is expected about 2020 to have a period of time when about 50 billion devices will be online. That is many times higher than the world population.

Inherent to the emergence of a new technology are challenges such as privacy and protection against hacking. But despite this, the prospects related to Internet of Things are definitely promising to call.
